Recent Law Changes
Clarification on Valid Signatures for Immigration Benefit Requests
This law clarifies that if U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) accepts an immigration benefit request but later finds it lacks a valid signature, USCIS may reject or deny the request at its discretion. Previously, the rules were less clear about how USCIS would handle requests with invalid signatures. This change affects anyone submitting immigration benefit requests to USCIS. The new rule takes effect on July 10, 2026.
Changes to USCIS Immigration Fees and Procedures
This law amends U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations to codify new immigration fees and procedures required by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R.1). It establishes asylum and annual asylum fees, including consequences for non-payment; introduces a new Form I-94 fee requirement; sets validity periods for certain types of employment authorization; and retains the Form I-589 filing fee for every application. This affects individuals applying for immigration benefits or seeking asylum in the United States. The changes take effect on May 29, 2026.
