Proposed Establishment of Corrections Ombudsman

⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.

This proposed bill would establish a new role called the 'Corrections Ombudsman' in Maine. Before this change, there was no such position to specifically address concerns or complaints from individuals within the corrections system. If enacted, the Corrections Ombudsman would be responsible for investigating and addressing issues raised by inmates, their families, and other concerned parties regarding conditions and treatment within correctional facilities. This new role is intended to enhance oversight and accountability in Maine's corrections system. The bill does not specify an effective date.
