Changes to Kingsport Charter Affecting Local Governance and Tax Collection

This proposed bill would make several changes to the charter of Kingspot, Tennessee. It would alter when a vice-mayor is chosen by the board, change the timing for issuing warrants to collect delinquent taxes, remove the requirement that tentative appropriation ordinances must be published in newspapers, and adjust the date when elected members of the board of education assume office from July 1st to September 1st. This would also affect when these members choose a president. The changes are subject to local approval and amend Chapter 76 of the Private Acts of 1917.

BEFORE

Before this change, the charter required a tentative appropriation ordinance to be published in newspapers and set July 1st as the date for board of education members to assume office and choose a president.
