Changes to Truancy Reporting and Student Transfer Policies
⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.
This proposed bill would require directors of schools in Tennessee to refer students who were receiving truancy interventions but withdrew without transferring to another school to juvenile court. It also proposes that unexcused absences a student accumulates before transferring to a new school will follow them, affecting the determination of habitual truancy and implementation of truancy plans at their new school. This change would impact local education agencies (LEAs), students who have been absent frequently, and juvenile courts.
