County and Municipal Authority to Lower Flags for Prominent Citizens
⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.
This proposed bill would allow county mayors and chief executives of municipalities in Tennessee to order flags on public property to be lowered to half-staff when a prominent citizen from that area passes away. Before this change, there was no specific provision allowing local leaders to make such decisions regarding the lowering of flags for deceased citizens. This affects local government officials who will now have the authority to honor their community members in this way. The effective date is not specified.
