Proposed Changes to Child Custody Determinations
⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.
This proposed bill would change how courts determine child custody by requiring them to give the highest weight to credible evidence of physical abuse, sexual abuse, or domestic violence against any member of a child's household. Previously, there was no specific requirement for such emphasis on these types of evidence in custody decisions. This change would affect parents and guardians involved in custody disputes as well as judges making custody determinations. The effective date is not specified.
