Proposed Changes to Commercial Driver Licenses and Employer Penalties

⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.

This proposed bill would require enforcement officers to issue an out-of-service order to commercial drivers who cannot read or speak English during a safety inspection. This change affects commercial drivers and their employers in Tennessee, as it imposes penalties on employers of such drivers. The proposal aims to align with federal requirements for commercial driver license holders. If enacted, the bill would amend TCA Title 55 and Title 65, Chapter 15.
