Restrictions on Animal Testing and Vaccination Authority

Enacted law

This law changes how animal health tests and vaccinations are ordered within Tennessee. Previously, the commissioner of agriculture could order such measures to protect animal health generally. Now, orders can only be issued for detecting or treating notifiable or monitored diseases. The commissioner may still recommend tests or vaccinations for general health protection but cannot mandate them. This affects veterinarians, farmers, pet owners, and those importing animals into Tennessee.
