Annual Publication of Waivers for Class Size Requirements
⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.
This proposed bill would require the commissioner of Tennessee's Department of Education to publish annually on the department's website the number of waivers granted from average class size requirements. These waivers are given to local education agencies (LEAs) for funding their 'grow your own' programs, which aim to develop new teachers within the community. Before this proposed change, there was no requirement for such publication. This would affect LEAs and parents who wish to know how many waivers were granted in previous years.
