Expungement of Certain Violent Offenses for Pardoned Individuals

⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.

This proposed bill would allow courts in Tennessee to expunge certain violent offenses if the individual has been pardoned. Before this change, only non-violent offenses could be expunged under similar circumstances. The court must consider whether the offense was violent and other relevant factors presented by both the petitioner and the district attorney general when deciding on expungement. This would affect individuals who have received a pardon for violent offenses and wish to clear their criminal record.
