PROPOSEDPROPOSED BILLTennesseeMEDIUM IMPACT
New Cause of Action for Compensation of Demonstrators Engaging in Rioting
⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.
This proposed bill would create a new legal avenue allowing individuals to seek damages from those who pay others to participate in demonstrations where the paid demonstrators engage in conduct that meets the criteria for criminal offenses such as rioting. Before this change, there was no specific cause of action for seeking damages under these circumstances. The affected parties include those paying demonstrators and those who might suffer harm due to their actions. This proposed law would amend Titles 29, 38, and 50 of the Tennessee Code Annotated.
