Proposed Ban on TennCare Coverage for Gender Affirming Procedures

⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.

This proposed bill would prohibit TennCare from providing coverage or reimbursement for medical procedures aimed at enabling an individual to identify with a gender different from their sex assigned at birth, or to treat discomfort related to such discordance. Before this change, there were no specific prohibitions on covering these types of procedures under TennCare. This proposal affects individuals who rely on TennCare and seek coverage for gender-affirming medical treatments. The effective date is not specified.
