Proposed Changes to Property Tax Assessment for Multi-unit Rental Housing

⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.

This proposed bill would establish a new process for property tax assessment and valuation of multi-unit rental housing that receives federal, state, or local incentives based on low-income renter restrictions. Before this change, there was no specific process outlined for assessing these properties. The amendment affects landlords who own multi-unit rental properties receiving such incentives and the tenants living in those units. If enacted, it would amend several titles of Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA), including Titles 7, 13, 48, 49, 67, and 68.
