Stiffer Penalties for Intoxicated Vehicular Homicide and Leaving the Scene

⚠️
PROPOSED LEGISLATIONThis bill has been introduced but has NOT been signed into law. Legislative proposals may be amended, passed, or fail to advance. This is not current law.

This proposed bill would change how Tennessee punishes individuals convicted of vehicular homicide while intoxicated if they also leave the scene of an accident. Previously, there was no specific requirement that such offenders be classified as Range II offenders. Under this new proposal, anyone found guilty of both offenses would face a minimum punishment level of a Range II offender. This affects drivers who are involved in fatal accidents due to intoxication and then flee the scene. The effective date is not specified.
